Daniel Bogdanovic clinches Sheffield United switch

Sheffield United striker Daniel Bogdanovic
Bogdanovic moved to Barnsley from Lokomotiv Sofia last summer.

Sheffield United have signed out-of-contract Barnsley striker Daniel Bogdanovic on a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old, who rejected a new deal at Oakwell, will become a Blades player on a free transfer on 1 July.

The Malta international says that he turned down an offer from Leeds, a claim that the Elland Road side deny.

He told the Blades website: "I had better financial offers from other clubs but chose United because of their potential and ambition."

The Serbia-born striker played in Malta, Italy and Bulgaria before coming to England with Barnsley last year.

He scored 14 goals in the Championship this season.

As Barnsley's player of the season and a Maltese international of Serbian descent he has a stature about him

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell said: "It's a relief to get the first new player in. Daniel made a name for himself in the Championship last season and I hope he goes on to forge a successful career here.

"His enthusiasm to come here in the first place is a good sign and made a big impression on us.

"He has some attributes that can be important to us and the more variety we have the better because teams can be difficult to break down if they know the opposition doesn't have alternative options.

"Getting the lad in this early gives him every opportunity to meet the lads at the beginning of pre-season training, get to know them and adapt to what we want from him.

"As Barnsley's player of the season and a Maltese international of Serbian descent he has a stature about him."
