Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell says he understands fans' frustrations but needs them to be patient.
Blackwell faced calls to quit from a section of Blades supporters after Sunday's home defeat by Scunthorpe.
But Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's a big rebuilding job here. Let's get real - you can't keep [making progress] with part-time staff.
"There's only nine players left at the end of the season. Seven who played on Sunday won't be here in a few weeks."
The Blades' injury-plagued season has seen Blackwell using 36 different players so far in this campaign, including multiple loan signings.

"People criticise knowing the problems there are here," added Blackwell.
"You get frustrated because you know how great the club is and what's expected.
"I know what the fans want because I want exactly the same."
