Blades manager Neil Warnock says a striker is top of his January hit-list despite two goals from Neil Shipperley against Burnley on Saturday.
He said: "Neil knows I will be desperately trying to sign a better player than him in January."
Vincent Pericard's loan from Portsmouth has been ended and Warnock is meeting with plc chairman Kevin McCabe this week to discuss targets.
The Blades are 13 points clear of third-placed Watford.

And Warnock said the club were making plenty of enquiries in their quest to secure Premiership football at Bramall Lane.
He said: "We've already made enquiries home and abroad - numerous.
"Kevin McCabe's very supportive of me and we'll be talking about targets and what they might cost us and draw up a list of priorities.
Warnock revealed he tried to lure Richard Cresswell to the club before he moved from Preston to Leeds in August.
He said: "We'll look to get someone in. I was disappointed to miss out on the likes of Cresswell."
Shipperley took his tally this season to eight in the 3-0 win over the Clarets.
