Oli Johnson returns to Norwich after Scunthorpe trial

Norwich City striker Oli Johnson has returned to Carrow Road after a short spell training with Scunthorpe United.

The Canaries wanted United to pay the 23-year-old Johnson's wages in full, something the League One club was not prepared to do.

Iron boss Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside: "We wanted to keep him for another week because really we hadn't seen enough of him."

The former Stockport forward featured once for Scunthorpe's reserves.

However there was better news for United from skipper Cliff Byrne as he looks to return from injury.

Byrne has returned to full training after a second medical opinion on a back problem gave him the go-ahead to step up his fitness work.

The club have pencilled him to return in the reserves, possibly before the end of the month.
