Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins has said he hopes new signing Garry Thompson will be fit to make his league debut against Leeds United on Saturday.
The former Morecambe midfielder, who joined on a free transfer, missed the Iron's 4-0 Lincs Cup Final victory over Grimsby at the weekend due to injury.
Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside: "He picked up the injury last Monday in one of the weight sessions.
"There's no way we were going to risk him and he's doing rehab work."
Meanwhile, striker Ben May was substituted after eight minutes during the win over their local their North Lincolnshire rivals with a sore ankle.
But Adkins is expecting him to be available to play in their League One opener against Leeds at Glanford Park.
