Scunthorpe United manager Nigel Adkins says news of chairman Steve Wharton's suspected heart attack has shocked everyone at the club.

The Iron say there is no update on his condition but expect him to be released from hospital in the next few days.

"It's very unfortunate for the chairman and we wish him a speedy recovery," Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Our thoughts are with him at this moment in time, I know he has been walking around his hospital ward."

"It was a big shock to everybody because he is a fit guy and a passionate guy about our football club and we all do wish him a big speedy recovery, our thoughts are with you chairman."

Wharton became chairman at Glanford Park in 2001.

He resigned the following year when Scunthorpe missed out on promotion, but he returned in 2004.
