Tubbs confident of Salisbury win

Tubbs has scored 13 goals for Salisbury this season

Salisbury striker Matthew Tubbs says he believes the club can come away with a win against Accrington Stanley in the first round of the FA Cup.

"We know they're a side for the taking," Tubbs told BBC Wiltshire.

"We know we've got to go up there and try and get a result and if we do hopefully we can get a bigger side."

The 25-year-old has some strong cup pedigree, having scored for Salisbury against Nottingham Forest live on television in the second round in 2006.

"The carrots are there. If we beat Accrington Stanley who knows what little adventure we can go on to."

Salisbury ply their trade just one league below Accrington in the Blue Square Premier division.

"The bottom half of League Two is the same as the top half of the conference," continued Tubbs.

"We know it's not one of the glamorous ties like your Leeds or one of those big sides.

"They're a club with financial problems like we've had and hopefully we can believe we can beat them."

The Whites have not got to the first round since 2006 when they beat Fleetwood 3-0 at home to set up their plum tie with Nottingham Forest.

For Tubbs, who scored a hat-trick against Farnborough in the last round, the memories of that day at the Raymond McEnhill stadium are still very strong.

"People say that in your lifetime you get your 15 minutes of fame - well that was mine," he said.

"It was the best feeling ever getting that goal and making the centre pages of the national newspapers.

"It's the sort of feeling you want to recreate again and being in the next round of the FA Cup is the perfect opportunity for it."
