Injury sidelines keeper Clarke

Salisbury City

Salisbury City have been dealt a severe blow ahead of pre-season training after goalkeeper Ryan Clarke broke a bone in his foot.

The 26-year-old fractured his fifth metatarsal after stepping on a rock whilst on holiday.

Clarke will be in plaster for two weeks he hopes to be fit for the new season.

He said: "I'll be in the cast for the first week of pre-season training. It'll give me three weeks to get ready for the first game of the season."

He added: "I went for a dip in the sea and when I came out I went over on a rock in the water. At first I just thought it was my ankle, but I woke up the next day in agony.

"I booked a flight back that afternoon and got myself straight back to my local hospital in Bristol.

"I sat down with the doctor and he wasn't too worried. The break wasn't all the way across the bone so that's positive."
