Diamonds' Alan Power learning from midfield mentors

Power joined the Diamonds from League One side Hartlepool

Rushden & Diamonds midfielder Alan Power says he is benefitting from the experience now at the club.

Coach Kevin Nicholls and veteran midfielder Gary Mills joined Rushden this season from Luton and Mansfield.

Power, 23, told BBC Radio Northampton: "Kevin is technically very good and he's teaching us all kinds of things.

"And I can learn from people who've been in the game longer than me, like Gary. He sits, and it gives Max Porter and I licence to [go forward] now."

Power has played 25 games and scored twice for the Diamonds since his move from Hartlepool in the summer.

"The more games I play, I think I'm getting better and better," he added.

"I'd like to score a few more goals, but that's up to me, getting into the right positions and getting shots away."

The former Nottingham Forest and Grays Athletic player also praised his captain Aaron O'Connor, who took over from Jamie Stuart in early January.

"I've known Aaron since I was 18 [at Grays] and I'm delighted with him being my captain.

"He'll work hard all over the pitch. He's a good speaker, he scores and creates goals. What more do you want?"
