Stuart was named captain before the recent game with Rothwell
Rushden and Diamonds captain Jamie Stuart says their participation in a pre-season tournament should help their new signings settle into the team.
Diamonds face Blackpool and Barnstaple Town this week in the group stages of the Errea South West Challenge Cup.
Stuart told BBC Radio Northampton: "Winning the tournament would be a bonus, but at the moment we're just trying to get used to the new players."
The winners of the group of three will qualify for the semi-finals.
Diamonds have already beaten Rothwell Town 3-1 and lost to St Johnstone 1-0 as part of their build up to the forthcoming season.
Stuart added: "Playing St Johnstone was more of a fitness game. The result didn't really matter too much it was more about everyone getting a good run-out."
