Rotherham United will move into the loan market for a striker if they fail to sign Mansfield's Michael Boulding.
The 32-year-old forward is currently considering offers from several clubs, including his former side Grimsby Town, after scoring 25 goals last season.
Millers assistant manager John Breckin told BBC Radio Sheffield: "If he decides against the move then we've got other irons in the fire.
"We've spoken to several clubs about bringing in long-term loans."
