Hill led Dale to the League Two play-off final last season
Rochdale boss Keith Hill has praised his players' character after their impressive 6-1 win against Chester.
Chris Dagnall's hat-trick helped Dale end a run of three League Two games without a win and close to within three points of the play-off places.
Hill, whose side are now 10th, told BBC Radio Manchester: "All the players impressed me in the Chester game.
"Their bravery on the ball was great, taking responsibility early on when a bit of pessimism was knocking around."
He added: "We overcame that pessimism with good performances and a winning result, so it pleased me. I'm just happy about the way we're progressing as a team.
"Agreed, we have got to take a little bit of the expectation off the players but that's natural after what we produced last season. But there are no givens in football, none whatsoever."
