Rochdale get Buckley
New Rochdale manager Alan Buckley
Buckley returns to football with Rochdale
Rochdale have named Alan Buckley as their new manager.

The former Grimsby, Walsall and West Brom boss takes over from Paul Simpson who resigned last month.

Simpson parted company with Rochdale after a season in which the Spotland club finished 19th in Division Three, but claimed the scalps of Coventry and Preston in the FA Cup.

Buckley returns to management for the first time since parting company with Lincoln in April 2002.

BUCKLEY'S TRAVELS
Walsall: June 79-Jan 82.
Walsall: July 82-Aug 86.
Grimsby: Jun 88-Oct 94.
West Brom: Oct 94-Jun 97.
Grimsby: May 97-Aug 2000.
Lincoln: Feb 2001-Apr 2002.

The 52-year-old has a good track record at clubs with smaller budgets, such as Grimsby and Walsall.

A statement issued by Rochdale said: "The board of directors felt it was extremely mportant to appoint a manager with a wealth of experience.

"This is certainly something Alan Buckley will bring to the club.

"He has gained promotion on several occasions and his sides have a good reputation for playing attractive football."
