Hollins leaves Rochdale
John Hollins could not agree a new deal with Rochdale
Hollins got Rochdale into the Division Three play-offs
Rochdale have parted company with manager John Hollins after failing to agree a new contract with the 55-year-old.

The former Swansea boss guided Dale to the Division Three play-offs after taking over at the club in December 2001.

But he only signed a deal until the end of the season - and has now left after failing to thrash out the terms of a long-term contract.

It is simply a case of us not being able to agree a satisfactory financial package

"Discussions have been taking place with John Hollins for approaching two weeks now," chairman David Kilpatrick told the club's official website.

"We made an initial offer to John in an attempt to keep him at the football club, but in the end we simply couldn't agree a suitable package with him.

"Negotiations have continued since our original offer, and it is simply a case of us not being able to agree a satisfactory financial package.

"As a board we felt we couldn't allow the situation to drift on any longer, and we had to make a decision for the benefit of the club."

Hollins mystified

Hollins received a fax from Rochdale informing him that the offer of a deal had been withdrawn.

"I must say I am very surprised by the decision," said Hollins.

"As far as I was aware we were still negotiating and I hadn't been given a date or time by which I had to respond.

"The chairman made me an offer and I was mulling it over with my wife in London."

Hollins' last game in charge was the play-off semi-final second-leg match against Rushden & Diamonds.

Rochdale only lost the two-legged tie 4-3 on aggregate and Hollins said he was determined to win promotion with the club next season.

He had already offered new deals to several players but the club are now searching for a new manager to plot their promotion campaign next season.
