New Reading signing Joseph Mills credits brother Matt

New Reading signing Joseph Mills has described how he turned to his brother for advice when approached by the club.

Mills, 21, the younger brother of former Royals skipper Matt, joined Reading from Southampton on Monday.

"Obviously when I knew the interest was there from Reading he was the first person I spoke to," he said.

"He had nothing but good words to say about the club. He spent a great few seasons here, he told me the team spirit is brilliant."

The younger Mills said he was looking forward to the chance to play and train with his new teammates, particularly fellow left-back Ian Harte.

"He's a great player. He's played in the top divisions, and I'll be watching him in training and learning from his experiences. If he's got any words of wisdom for me I'm keen to listen.

"He's obviously in the left-back position at this time. I'm just going to have to bide my time, work hard on the training pitch and when I get my chance, grab it," he added.

Mills already has experience of the Madejski Stadium after playing there while on loan at Doncaster last season. That game ended with a hard-fought 4-3 victory to Reading, and Mills was impressed even then with the way his new side performed.

"That game just showed what kind of team Reading are, even at 3-1 down they had a never-say-die attitude," he said.

"The crowd got straight behind the team, lifted them another level, and they ended up coming out with a 4-3 win."
