Reading chairman Sir John Madejski hopes his side can build on their 2-1 FA Cup extra-time win over Liverpool.

The Championship strugglers set up a fourth round tie with Burnley thanks to Shane Long's headed winner.

Madejski told BBC Berkshire: "Let's hope that everyone gets behind the club now and we push forward in the league.

"We've got a big game on Saturday and the players realise that. We have to get down off this high cloud and get ready for the next game."

Reading travel Nottingham Forest in the Championship this Saturday and Madejski says the team should be full of confidence.

He said: "The players must have belief about themselves now. We came here as the underdogs and we return to Reading in triumph which is fantastic for the whole club and everyone associated with it.

"Nothing will be better than when we got promoted to the Premiership - nothing can ever be as good as that, although we may do that again.

"But this is a celebration and there aren't too many of those so we're very grateful when they happen."

The chairman would not be drawn on the future of caretaker-manager Brian McDermott, who replaced Brendan Rodgers in December.

When asked about his plans, he said: "We've all got work to do at the club and we go forward.

"I'm proud to bits of all the players, the manager, the assistant manager, the director of football -everyone played their part. It was a team effort in every sense."
