Reading midfielder Emerse Fae says he is determined to earn a regular place under Royals boss Steve Coppell.

The Ivory Coast international has made just three Premier League starts for Reading since joining from Nantes for £2.5m in August 2007.

Fae, 24, told BBC Radio Berkshire: "At Nantes I played all the games and when I came here I thought I would play all the games too.

"But I was not afraid of this. I just want to work hard and play more."

Fae insists he is not unhappy with the competition for places at the Madejski Stadium and is confident he can establish himself for his club, as he has done with his country.

"If you look at the Ivory Coast team you'll see there are many good players," he explained. "I did what I was able to do and I won my place.

"It is the same here. I am happy that more players have come - we need them to stay in the Premier League. With injuries and suspensions lots of players will have a chance to play."

Reading are third-bottom of the Premier League after a run of eight consecutive defeats and Fae admits he is concerned by his side's form.

Fae added: "Yes I'm worried, but in my last three seasons I've been playing to not go down with Nantes.

"Even if I'm worried, I'm calm because to stay in the Premier League, you have to be calm. If we start to panic, we won't stay in the Premier League."
