Royals to recall Ashdown
Jamie Ashdown
Ashdown is set to return to the Madejski Stadium
Reading will seek Football League permission to recall goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown from his loan spell at Rushden.

Royals boss Steve Coppell needs cover following a knee injury to first choice Marcus Hahnemann.

Jamie Young deputised for Hahnemann when he limped off after 56 minutes of the game against Stoke.

Coppell told Reading's official website: "In terms of match sharpness and experience, Jamie Ashdown is ahead of Jamie Young."

Ashdown had been expected to remain at Nene Park for the rest of the season.

Diamonds boss Barry Hunter, an ex-Reading player himself, admitted: "This was totally unexpected.

"But I had a phone call from (director of football) Nicky Hammond at Reading yesterday after they checked out Hahnemann's injury.

"The club had 24-hour recall on Jamie so he has gone back.

"Thankfully we have got a good replacement with Billy (Turley) who is fit again," Hunter told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.
