Mackie admits racist comments
Reading defender John Mackie
Mackie has apologised for the incident
Reading's John Mackie has formally admitted to the Football Association he made racist comments following a game against Sheffield United in December.

Mackie's abuse was directed at Carl Asaba during the game on 14 December and, although the Blades player did not want to take the complaint further, his club took it to the FA.

The Royals defender publicly apologised after the game and voluntarily donated two weeks' wages to the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign.

He admitted a charge of insulting and abusive words to an opponent and the FA are currently in the process of setting a date for a disciplinary hearing.

"John Mackie has admitted directing racist comments towards Carl Asaba during Reading's match against Sheffield United," a spokesman told the FA website.
