Alex Smith signs two-year deal at the Madejski Stadium
Reading manager Alan Pardew has signed midfielder Alex Smith from Port Vale on a Bosman free transfer, after he turned down a new contract at Vale Park.

The 25-year-old has signed a two-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

"We've been talking to Alex for a while and three or four other clubs were involved, so I'm very glad he's decided to come," Pardew told the club website.

"He can fill a number of roles on the left - wing-back, full-back or midfield - he's just the player we needed."
