Salim Kerkar returns to France to complete Rangers move

French-Algerian winger Salim Kerkar has returned to France after a trial with Rangers in order to complete his move to the Glasgow club.

The 23-year-old free agent spent three seasons with French club Guegnon.

Rangers had hoped to complete the move in September, but require additional paperwork from his previous club.

Assistant boss Ally McCoist said: "Salim is going over to see his old club to move things on because we have been unable to finalise things."

Smith signed Vladimir Weiss on loan from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, but believes he is still short of wingers and was impressed with Kerkar during some closed-doors matches.

"We are just trying to get the full background before we go on and complete that deal," said Smith in September.

"He has has been looking good so hopefully we can get a resolution to that in the next few days."

"He gives us options in the wide areas," the manager said on his club website.

"He can play either side and he has done well in the bounce games he has featured in.

"It will be a relief to the lad once things are sorted because he has been around us for a while now and I think he will be glad to get everything over with."

Kerkar, who played for Guegnon in Le Championat in France and had a loan spell with Calais, is the younger brother of the Algeria international Karim Kerkar and is also friends with Rangers centre-back Madjid Bougherra.

Assistant boss McCoist added: "We have been seeking some confirmation from them on a couple of issues but have not had the information we need.

"So he will head back there to try to get things moving and then come back and join the training again and hopefully we can get a deal done.

"He is a lad who is shaping up well. He is a nice lad but more importantly he has a god left foot and I think our fans will enjoy seeing him."
