McGregor expects tough competition for Scotland jersey

Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor does not expect to walk straight into the Scotland team despite the injury to number one choice Craig Gordon.

McGregor, 28, has been told he will be part of manager Craig Levein's plans following his previous ban from the Scotland set-up under George Burley.

He said: "There are big games coming up and I would like to be part of them but I realise that there is competition."

Gordon has been sidelined for three months with a broken arm.

Levein has to decide on a replacement for the Sunderland goalie for the friendly against Sweden next month and the opening Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Lichtenstein.

Speaking to the Rangers website, McGregor added: "I obviously know that Craig is injured and that's disappointing for him. First of all I have to be picked but I obviously hope that I can get into the team.

"That's not a given because Marsh (David Marshall) did really well last season at Cardiff so I can't expect just to walk in.

"It was good that Craig Levein indicated that he wanted me back. He came to Murray Park soon after he took over and spoke to a few of the lads and we all liked what we heard."
