Bougherra promises good behaviour

Bougherra was issued a second yellow card for dissent against Motherwell

Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra insists he will not trouble the referee in Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Stuttgart in Germany.

The Algerian international was sent off for dissent in Saturday's goalless league draw with Motherwell, but later apologised to referee Dougie McDonald.

"My reaction was no good. You need to respect the referee," said Bougherra.

"But afterwards, I said sorry to the referee. I won't do it again and I learned, but it is not a bad thing."

McDonald issued Bougherra with a yellow card following a challenge on Lukas Jutkiewicz and the former Charlton man lost his temper then verbally abused the ref, earning a second yellow.

Rangers keeper Allan McGregor saved the resulting penalty, rescuing a point for the champions, but Bougherra was repentant after the match and paid a visit to the referee's room to issue an unreserved apology.

"You need to control yourself in these situations," said Bougherra.

"Next time, I need to be very careful - but when you want to win, a penalty in the last two minutes is difficult to accept."
