Velicka secures Bristol City loan

Bristol City have completed the signing of Rangers' Lithuanian striker Andrius Velicka on a year-long loan.

The 30-year-old held talks with the Championship side and passed a medical to be Gary Johnson's latest signing.

"We're very pleased with that. It's the club in the bag we're looking for," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.

"He's a super finisher and has got a great goals to game ratio. We've watched him on numerous occasions and always felt we was our type of player."

Ibrox boss Walter Smith said: "We wish him well. He came in at the end of last season and grabbed a number of goals that helped us towards the title."

Velicka joined Rangers from Viking FK in a £1m deal last summer but found his first-team chances restricted.

However, Smith threw him into the fray towards the end of last season and his four goals in the run-in proved crucial to Rangers' championship win.

The forward, who has 20 caps for his country and two international goals, has previously played with Hearts, whom he joined on loan from FBK Kaunas.

He attended City's home win over Crystal Palace and could make his debut against QPR on Tuesday.

Velicka will be re-united at City with former Hearts team-mate Paul Hartley.
