Deposed Rangers captain Barry Ferguson hopes to remain at Ibrox next season.

Speaking to BBC Scotland after his team clinched the league title, Ferguson, when asked if he wanted to stay, said: "Of course, Rangers is my team."

Ferguson came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Dundee United and lifted the trophy with new skipper David Weir.

"I was delighted to be involved last week and today. It's been a hard April and May, but I've come through it a stronger and better person," he added.

Ferguson and goalkeeper Allan McGregor were suspended by Rangers boss Walter Smith for inappropriate behaviour while on international duty.

The midfielder lost the captain's armband, while McGregor's place in the Rangers goal was handed to Neil Alexander.

"I admit I made a mistake, I've learned from it and we'll see what happens now," said the 31-year-old.

At Christmas, we thought 'no chance', but all the boys kept plugging away and eventually here we are - champions

"The gaffer made a decision what to do and I respect the gaffer's decision.

"There has never been a fall-out. I got a calf injury and I thought that was me for the season.

"But the gaffer pulled me in last week and told me he wanted to involve me and I'm delighted to be a part of this."

McGregor was also delighted with the title win, despite not being involved on the park, especially as Rangers had trailed Celtic for much of the season.

"This makes it so sweet," he said. "At Christmas, we thought 'no chance', but all the boys kept plugging away and eventually here we are - champions.

"It's disappointed not being part of the run-in. Right at this minute, I'm not bothered.

"I just look at all the fans, I'm a fan myself, I'm absolutely delighted."
