Defender Papac extends Ibrox stay

Rangers defender Sasa Papac has signed a new contract to keep him at Ibrox until 2011.

The Bosnian was signed by former Rangers boss Paul Le Guen from Austria Vienna in 2006.

Since then the 28-year-old has become a regular starter for current manager Walter Smith.

"I am so happy to sign a new deal with Rangers," Papac told the club's official website. "My dream now is to win the championship."

Papac is the only player captured by Le Guen to have stayed with the club since the French manager was replaced by Smith in January 2007.

"To spend five years with a club like Rangers is something special and I aim to give all I can in the next three years," he added.

"We had success last season with the two cups and then we got to the UEFA Cup final which was fantastic.

"However, the main target is the SPL title and I would love to win that this season.

"I believe we have the players to achieve this dream but we know we'll have a battle on our hands."

Signed as a central defender, Papac has spent most of Rangers career at left-back and scored his first goal for the club in last week's 3-3 draw with Dundee United.

"It was a great moment to score my first goal for Rangers and hopefully there are many more to come," said Papac.

"I scored a few times for Austria Vienna so I know that I can be a scorer for Rangers. I have been encouraged to get forward more, link with the front players and I've managed to do that.

"I have to keep working hard and I'll do that. I want to be successful at this great club."
