Adam misses Rangers' trophy chase

Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam
Losing Adam is a blow ahead of the Uefa Cup semi-final

Rangers midfielder Charlie Adam will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury he sustained last month.

Adam was hurt in an accidental challenge during preparations for the Ibrox club's Uefa Cup quarter-final with Sporting Lisbon.

Specialists have cleared the 22-year-old to resume training before the end of the campaign.

However, he will be unavailable for duty as Rangers chase a potential treble at home and abroad.

It leaves manager Walter Smith with a potential headache for his side's forthcoming Uefa Cup semi-final against Fiorentina.

Captain Barry Ferguson and fellow midfielder Kevin Thomson are both suspended for the opening leg at Ibrox on 24 April.
