Nacho Novo will miss Sunday's CIS Insurance Cup final against Dundee United after his weekend red card.
Novo was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Sunday
The Spanish forward was sent off for a reckless lunge at Hibs defender Thierry Gathuessi during Rangers' Scottish Cup replay win at Ibrox.
And a dismissal for serious foul play rules a player out of the next game in any competition.
"He is devastated by what has happened," said team-mate Chris Burke, who scored the winner against Hibs.
Burke netted the game's only goal to set up a quarter-final tie with Partick Thistle.
And, while confessing that he had not seen the incident, stressed that Novo was not a dirty player.
"He hasn't been sent off that many times and I don't think he is that type of player," added Burke.
"If it was a bad challenge, I'm sure he won't be doing another one like that again. He will be on the park more than he's off it."
Novo's red card sparked a technical area bust-up between manager Walter Smith and Mixu Paatelainen, with Smith sent to the stand to cool off.
Smith claimed afterwards that the Hibs bench had spent the entire game calling for the referee to take action against Rangers players.
Paatelainen insisted he was simply trying to prevent Gathuessi from reacting to the challenge and picking up a red card of his own.
"I was at the other side of the park and I just saw the two managers arguing," said Burke.
"It just shows the two managers' characters. They want to win, as well as the players. There were two teams going out for the win."
Daniel Cousin also misses the CIS Insurance Cup final with a broken jaw, while fellow striker Jean-Claude Darcheville continues to be dogged by a troublesome hamstring.
