Tugay reveals Ibrox split

Departing Rangers midfielder Tugay Kerimoglu has revealed the Ibrox dressing room was split in two throughout the season.

The Light Blues were deposed as champions by Celtic, who finished off 15 points clear at the top of the table, and failed to win any silverware during a season for the first time under manager Dick Advocaat.

And former Turkish international Tugay, who is set to join Blackburn Rovers over the summer, has pointed the finger at in-fighting among the players for the lack of success.

"The dressing room was divided 50-50 and when that happens you have problems," Tugay told the Daily Record. "It becomes difficult to win things if everybody is not pulling in the same direction.

"A lot of the players at Rangers don't like each other so it doesn't surprise me that some of them are leaving.

Forced to move on

"I got along with the majority of the squad although I was closest to Jorg Albertz. It has not been a good time for him recently and he was very upset he had to leave the club."

But Tugay insists he had no problems with Advocaat, despite making only fleeting appearances in the first team.

"All I've ever wanted to do is play for Rangers and show the supporters what I am capable of," said Tugay. "Sadly, I've not been given a run in the team and, because of that, I've been forced to move on.

"I don't blame the manager because these things happen in football and he did what he thought was best for the team.

"When I left the ground on Sunday, Mr Advocaat thanked me for my contribution and wished me all the best for the future. There were no hard feelings."
