Manager John McGlynn salutes Raith Rovers cup heroes

John McGlynn said his Raith players were magnificent at Pittodrie

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn hailed his side after the Scottish Cup replay win over Aberdeen.

"It's a great result for us and a great performance," McGlynn told BBC Scotland after the 1-0 victory at Pittodrie.

"Aberdeen had a lot of the ball, particularly in the second half, but we defended so well. This was a team that scored four goals against Celtic.

"To miss Mark Campbell and have a makeshift back four, they handled everything that was thrown at them."

Gregory Tade scored the only goal of the game after 58 minutes and McGlynn was delighted at the manner of his side's display after going in front.

"Our back four were magnificent," McGlynn said.

"In front of them, the midfield three worked their socks off and Gregory Tade was a threat.

"I thought we created the goal really well and Darren Smith had a shot in the first half that the keeper's made a great save from.

"I feared the worst coming here with a number of players missing but it's a fantastic result."

McGlynn said he was delighted for the estimated 700 Raith supporters who made the trip to Pittodrie.

"It's an amazing result for the whole football club," he added. "Now we have Dundee in the next round. When I came to the club in 2006, we were second bottom of the Second Division.

"So, the football club's come on leaps and bounds. We're absolutely delighted."
