Queen's Park head coach Gardner Speirs has extended his contract at Hampden for two years after agreeing a new deal with the amateur club.

The 47-year-old joined the Spiders in January 2008, replacing Billy Stark, and guided his side to the Second Division play-offs this season.

"We have given ourselves a platform to build on after reaching the play-offs this term," said Speirs.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to take the club forward."

Speirs managed Clyde from 1995 to 1998 and also coached at Aberdeen and Ross County, where he had a successful spell as caretaker manager.

He arrived at Queen's Park after a successful spell as assistant manager at Partick Thistle.

The Spiders edged out Albion Rovers and Berwick Rangers to finish fourth in Division Three, 10 points behind East Stirlingshire.

However, they lost 4-0 at home to Arbroath, who finished ninth in Division Two, in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.

They managed a 2-2 draw at Gayfield Park but went out on aggregate as the Red Lichties progressed to the final, where they lost to Forfar Athletic and were relegated to Division Three.
