Manager Ian Holloway has opted for quality over quantity in a bid to get QPR out of Division Two.
A number of fringe players have gone since Rangers suffered an agonising play-off final defeat against Cardiff.
The size of Holloway's squad has been slashed but he has picked up two potential crowd favourites in Martin Rowlands and wide-man Gareth Ainsworth.
Lightning-quick forward Eric Sabin has also arrived and Tommy Williams has returned for a second loan spell.
Striker Kevin Gallen says Rangers will be looking to show they have put last season's play-off defeat behind them.
"What happened against Cardiff is immaterial now, we've just to push on and try and get promoted this time," Gallen told BBC Sport.
"It was a big disappointment to lose out like that in the play-offs but I think we've learned from that and can come back stronger.
"What happened happened. Now we're really looking forward to this season."
Gallen believes boss Holloway's new signings can help the R's win promotion.
"They look like really good additions and I think the team will be better for having them," he continued.
"The lads that have come in are good players and with the squad we've got, we're ready to give it a right good go this season.
"We're looking to get a good start and then take it from there. The players are all raring to go."
Gallen's pre-season was interupted by a knee strain, but he is fit again and keen to start the season.
"The knee is fine now. It's been a case of getting more games under my belt and building up my fitness, which I've been doing.
"I'm just really looking forward to the season because I think we can do well.
"Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday will be strong, but we're focusing on ourselves. We're determined to give it everything this season."
As well as the disappointment of the defeat in Cardiff in May, there was immense pride among R's fans and a real feeling that the club is on the up.
Holloway took over when Rangers were at their lowest ebb and no manager deserves success more than him.
But for a dismal run in the middle of last season, Rangers would have gone up automatically. There is every chance they will go one better this time.
