Preston goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan says the players take full responsibility for the current crisis the club finds itself in.

North End conceded in the final minute of their midweek defeat by Barnsley to drop back into the Championship's relegation zone.

Lonergan told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I don't think we deserve to be any higher in the league.

"We've not performed as well as we could and should have done."

The 27-year-old added: "We're not doing things as a team so the responsibility is down to us for not going out on the pitch and performing.

You've got to take the criticism because you also take the praise

A section of supporters booed the players off the pitch following Tuesday's defeat at Deepdale and the Preston-born keeper says that reaction is becoming a lot more common throughout the game.

"It's not nice and it seems to be becoming a trend in football," he said. "Supporters pay their money and they're entitled to say what they want but there's nothing you can do.

"But you've got to take the criticism because you also take the praise.

"The chairman [Maurice Lindsay] has come out in the past and said what our aims are for this season so I don't think that we can set too many expectations too high, but we still want to win.

"There's only so much our manager [Darren Ferguson] can do and when we cross the line we try and win every game."

There will be full-match commentary from BBC Radio Lancashire on Preston versus Hull City on Friday, the build-up begins at 1800 GMT.
