Preston midfielder Barry Nicholson has refused to concede that his season is over despite breaking his ribs in the victory over Coventry on Saturday.

The 30-year-old Scottish international has been told to rest completely for four weeks.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I'm a quick healer so I'm hopeful that everything will go OK.

"I'm praying the boys do well and get to the play-offs. It might mean I get more football this season."

Nicholson's injury came after blocking a goal-bound shot followed by a collision with Coventry's Ben Turner and he has admitted that he knew the injury was serious at the time.

"It's pure agony to be fair," he said.

"I tried to do a little jog around the back of the goal to try and see if I could come back on but I knew right away that something serious was wrong.

"I went and got the X-ray done and it showed the fracture so it's just disappointing."

The former Rangers, Dunfermline and Aberdeen midfielder has said the injury has come at a bad time for him after working hard recently to win back his place in the side.

Nicholson said: "It's a nightmare because I've been in and out of the side recently and it had just reached a point where I was getting back in due to Richard Chaplow's injury."
