Preston manager Billy Davies has warned it would be "suicidal" to sell gifted young striker David Nugent.
Highly-rated Nugent is a fanatical Everton fan
The 20-year-old is a fanatical Everton fan and has been touted as a £2m target for boss David Moyes in January.
Davies said: "David Nugent being a mad Evertonian might have created a bit of a monster but I have no intention of letting him go in the transfer window.
"I've said before and I'll say again, David Nugent has still got development to do at Preston North End."
Davies added: "I do think he will want a bigger stage but his time is not right at the moment.
"In a couple of years' time that time will be here and it would need to
be an astronomical figure coming into Preston North End before we ever consider anything for David Nugent and certainly a figure that is miles off the mark that you see in the paper."
Davies is doubly determined to keep Nugent after selling Richard Cresswell to Leeds United.
He said: "To let our other young striker go at this point would be suicidal. No matter how much speculation or how many press stories come out, the situation will still be the same in three weeks' time. I might as well put it to bed now.
"The ones that are thinking they can maybe get Nugent for a couple of million, they might as well go and have a good laugh in a corner because it won't happen."
