Portsmouth owner unsure of long-term future at the club

Portsmouth chairman Balram Chainrai has admitted he is not the right man to take the club forward in the long-term.

Chainrai met Pompey boss Steve Cotterill after their 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday evening to discuss the future of the club.

He told BBC Radio Solent: "We're talking about signing players and a promotion push but we still need time.

"We're stable, but I'm not the right man for this club long-term, the right owner's out there and we'll find them."

Chainrai was appointed as Portsmouth chairman last month and he became the club's fourth owner in a year when he took over at Fratton Park in February, before putting them into administration with debts of around £120m.

But although the Hong Kong business man is unsure of his long-term future with the club, he is positive Portsmouth can eventually return to the top-flight.

He said: "We've got a good team here. I have a lot of hope that we're going to get back to the Premier League.

"You only have to come here and attend one of the games and see the passion of the fans and the management to know the club can go back what it was a few years ago," he said.

"There is still a lot more work to do but we're in a much better place now. A few months of hard work and we'll be able to push forward again."
