Portsmouth sign Stoke City's Carl Dickinson on loan

Portsmouth have signed Stoke defender Carl Dickinson on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old left-back is boss Steve Cotterill's second loan signing of the season from the Potters following the arrival of Ibrahima Sonko last month.

Cotterill told the club website: "Carl's a player I've tracked for a little while and I'm delighted that we've been able to bring him to Pompey.

"It might take him a few games to get going but he's a good lad and I can see him becoming a fans' favourite."

Dickinson joined Stoke from Derby's academy in 2002, going on to make 60 appearances for the Potters.

But he has struggled to force his way into the team following their promotion to the Premier League and spent most of last season on loan at Barnsley, where he made 29 appearances.
