Guy Whittingham is prepared to leave Portsmouth
Portsmouth striker Guy Whittingham has revealed that he may no longer have a future at Fratton Park and that he is ready to go out on loan or drop down a division in order to get regular football.

The 35-year-old has not played for the first team for more than six months and missed the club's summer tour. "The manager told me I am a good influence on other players - but he can't see me playing too many games.

"Ideally I would really like to go out on loan, just so I can be playing once again," said Whittingham.

Record Haul

Whittingham, who scored a record 42 league goals for the club in the 1992/1993 season, is one goal short of his 100th league goal for the club but is realistic enough to know that he may never get the chance to reach that milestone.

"I always give advice to young players that sometimes you have to drop down a division to come back up. So going to a Second or Third Division club would not bother me."

Indeed, he may well be on his way to the Second Division on a free transfer after Peterborough made initial enquiries about him.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth captain Darren Moore seems set to return to action against Grimsby on Saturday after recovering from a hamstring strain, but Andy Awford is definitely ruled out with a neck strain.
