Portsmouth have signed Manchester City defender Tal Ben Haim on a four-year contract, subject to a work permit.

"It's a big challenge," said the 27-year-old Israel international. "We've brought in a few new players and I think we can turn things around."

The centre-back, who has had spells with Bolton and Chelsea, last featured for Manchester City in December.

Pompey have also captured 25-year-old midfielder Hassan Yebda on a season-long loan from Portuguese club Benfica.

Ben Haim has won 32 international caps, beginning his club career at Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2000.

"I've come here to give 100% in each game and no less," added Ben Haim.
