Blackburn midfielder Aaron Mokoena is to join Portsmouth on a free transfer after the South African agreed a three-year deal with the south coast club.

The 28-year-old midfielder made his final appearance as a substitute in Blackburn's 0-0 draw against West Brom.

Mokoena joined the club in June 2005 but has found himself becoming increasingly peripheral at Ewood Park.

He is keen to play more first-team football ahead of the World Cup being staged in his homeland next year.

606: DEBATE

"I have decided it is time to move on," said Mokoena. "I can leave in peace knowing that I've been honest to the team, I've been loyal.

"I am going to Portsmouth, I am going there to play, it is what every player wants to do. So it is going to be a good challenge.

"The good thing for me is that I have three years with Pompey and I'll be going there to do my job, as I did my job in Blackburn."
