Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has hailed the early promise shown by his new strike partnership of Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe.

The pair started together for the first time in Pompey's 4-1 friendly win at Redknapp's old club Bournemouth.

Crouch netted a brace, while Defoe also got on the scoresheet.

"It was great to see them playing together, now we need the other players in the team to learn how to use Peter," Redknapp told the club's website.

"I think they could be the best partnership since Johnny Dick and Vince Keeble, they played together for West Ham and were absolutely fantastic, they were like peaches and cream."

Sulley Muntari was also on target at Bournemouth, while another Pompey XI, including England goalkeeper David James, drew 1-1 at Blue Square South side Dorchester.
