Pompey to continue spending spree
Exclusive by Phil McNulty
Chief football writer

Milan Mandaric
Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric has revealed boss Harry Redknapp will continue his January spending spree.

Pompey have signed five players in the transfer window and Mandaric told BBC Sport they now want a new goalkeeper.

Redknapp has been linked with Norwich's Robert Green and Middlesbrough's transfer-listed Mark Schwarzer.

Mandaric told BBC Sport: "We are happy with what we have got, but our business will continue. We have interest in a goalkeeper, but no-one specific yet."

Redknapp topped up his squad by paying £7.5m for Spurs trio Sean Davis, Noe Pamarot and Pedro Mendes on Thursday.

And Pompey's spending, which co-incided with the arrival of new co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak, is around the £12m mark after the captures of Zimbabwe international striker Benjani Mwaruwari for a club record fee of £4.1m and Poland forward Emmanuel Olisadebe.

But Mandaric warned that Pompey will not pay exorbitant fees to clubs hoping to take advantage of their new financial firepower.

Norwich keeper Robert Green
Green could emerge as Portsmouth's next target

He said: "We have been busy, but we will be making more signings hopefully.

"There might be an outside chance of us getting another player before the Everton game, but it would be very difficult, so I would say we have probably finished our business for the week.

"But the way we do our business has nothing to do with extra money. This club is committed in the transfer market as long as I am here, but there is always dangerous people who think we have money to throw away.

"This is not the case. We are not going to pay silly money. The deals we have done so far have got nothing to do with extra money anyway because I was committed and we have been negotiating for these five new players for five or six weeks."

Norwich's England keeper Green and transfer-listed Boro star Schwarzer are likely to be among Redknapp's next targets.

Mandaric said: "We do have an interest in a goalkeeper, but there is nothing specific yet.

"My manager or anyone from the club has not approached Norwich City in that direction, but we do have an interest in a goalkeeper although we are not in negotiation or conversation with anyone at the moment."
