Perrin will escape FA punishment
Alain Perrin
Portsmouth manager Alain Perrin will escape with a written warning for sarcastically applauding referee Mark Clattenburg last Saturday.

Perrin was sent from the touchline and into the stands in the closing moments of the 1-0 defeat at Bolton after making the gestures.

The FA will write to Perrin about his future behaviour but there will be no fine or touchline suspension.

Perrin's dismissal to the stands has been deemed sufficient punishment.

However Perrin's actions, which came after Clattenburg booked Danish defender Brian Priske for taking a throw in from the wrong place, earned him a stinging rebuke from chairman Milan Mandaric.

"It is disappointing. I do not approve of this at all," said Mandaric.

I'm not the most patient guy in the world but you have to be realistic
Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric

"Alain was under pressure when we were losing a game we should not lose and it resulted in his act."

Portsmouth have only won three of the 15 games they have played under Perrin but Mandaric said his job was not under immediate threat.

"Alain was never under fire as far as anyone at the club is concerned," added Mandaric.

"We are totally behind him, but there is a lot of pressure put on him and maybe this did not help him.

"I am behind Alain, he is a highly professional manager and a great coach who has a tremendous work ethic.

"Everybody at the club should be behind him. When you look at the results there is nothing to brag about, but there is nothing to say about his job.

"There are a lot of British managers I could name who don't come close to him.

"I'm not the most patient guy in the world but you have to be realistic. This is not the time to make silly decisions and make silly mistakes.

"He is doing all he can, I think we have been unlucky and I am sure our quality will prevail."
