Portsmouth striker Lomana Tresor LuaLua has been charged with abusive behaviour by the Football Association.
The charge relates to an incident that took place in the 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough on 24 October.
LuaLua is alleged to have made a gesture towards the crowd at The Riverside and the FA have taken action after Cleveland Police looked into it.
The 23-year-old has until 22 December to respond to the charge and faces the prospect of a ban.
Suspension would be a further blow to Congo international LuaLua, who has struggled with injury and form this season.
Especially as it seemed LuaLua may have turned the corner after coming off the bench last Saturday to score his first goal of the season and give his side a 3-2 win over West Brom.
