Manager Harry Redknapp forecast a long hard season after Portsmouth returned empty-handed from Blackburn.
Redknapp said: "This is the sort of place we need to pick up points, I'm disappointed we came away with nothing.
"We're not going to get points at places like Arsenal and Chelsea and these are the teams who will be scrapping around with us.
"I felt confident at half time we could go on and win, but we didn't step it up after the break."
