Redknapp bags Foxe
Hayden Foxe found life hard at West Ham
Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has gone back to his old club West Ham to sign Australia international Hayden Foxe.
The 24-year-old centre-half moves to Pompey for £400,000 after making just 12 appearances during his 14-month spell with West Ham.
He has agreed a three-year deal with the First Division club and will complete his move later this week.
Foxe admitted Redknapp played a big part in his decision to move. "I'm coming to Portsmouth because of their fanatical support and because of Harry Redknapp," he said on the club's official website. "After talking with Harry I'm convinced that Portsmouth are a club going in the right direction." It is the second time Redknapp has signed the defender, having brought him to Upton Park on a free transfer from J-League side Sanfrecce during his spell as Hammers boss. Redknapp was delighted to have persuaded the player to move to Fratton Park.
"Hayden is a great player and he will be a big asset to Portsmouth for next season," he said. "He is a big strong defender who is very good in the air. "He will do a great job for us and is the sort of player that this club needs if we're to go forward next season." Redknapp is keen to strengthen the side, having taken over the managerial duties from Graham Rix towards the end of a disappointing season that saw them finish 17th.
