Pompey seal Todorov deal

Portsmouth have been chasing Todorov for several weeks
Portsmouth have signed Bulgarian international Svetoslav Todorov from West Ham for 750,000, at the same time as putting 16 players on the transfer list.

Pompey have been chasing the 23-year-old Todorov for several weeks but problems over his work permit delayed the move.

We have to drastically reduce the current wage bill

Portsmouth director of football Harry Redknapp brought Todorov to England when he was manager of West Ham.

Redknapp told the club's official website: "He is a very intelligent footballer and will bring good competition in the striking department."

But at the same time, chief executive Peter Storrie has taken steps to cut the club's wage bill.

Pompey want transfer fees for Steve Lovell, who has just joined First Division rivals Sheffield United on loan, Tom Curtis and Mladen Rudonja.

Top-heavy squad

Michael Panopoulos is already on loan at Dunfermline, while another 13 players are available on free transfers.

They include Scott Hiley, Ceri Hughes, Carl Tyler, Garry Brady and Thomas Thogersen.

"In order to bring in some quality players capable of taking us where we want to be next season, particularly in the defensive area, we have to drastically reduce the current wage bill," said Storrie.

"We have a top-heavy squad and something has to be done about that in order for us to replace quantity with quality."
