Mark Sims waits to accept position on Port Vale board

Port Vale

Mark Sims will delay his decision on an offer to become a director of Port Vale following the club's Extraordinary General Meeting.

The Staffordshire-based businessman was sponsored onto the board by majority shareholder Robbie Williams.

"What I intend to do is carry out my own financial due diligence on the business," Sims told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I want to satisfy myself that I'm not taking a directorship of a business that's a failing business."

He continued: "I don't have any failed businesses to my name and I don't intend to have any.

"I'm going to be instructing a finance team to carry out some detailed checks into the books of Port Vale over the next 10 days.

"After that, I'll make my decision whether I accept the offer to the board."

Shareholders cast a vote of no confidence in the current board of directors at the EGM at Vale Park on Wednesday.

However, three of the five directors, including chairman Bill Bratt, remain on the board after surviving individual votes for their positions.

Vice-chairman Peter Jackson and Stan Meigh were the two directors voted off.

Before the final results were announced, Williams' representatives contacted Dave Felstead, the vice-chairman of the supporters' club, offering to sponsor four people onto the board for £50,000 each.

The offer was rejected, however, as club rules state that only one person can be sponsored.

The rule stating that no one party can own more than 24.9% of shares also remains in place.
