Doug Loft pleased with Micky Adams' return to Port Vale

Port Vale midfielder Doug Loft has said the return of manager Micky Adams has been well received by the Vale squad.

Adams, 49, signed a three-year contract at Vale Park on Friday, just over four months after leaving the League Two club to take over at Sheffield United.

"He's a popular man around the club," Loft told BBC Radio Stoke. "Every player liked playing under him.

"I think we've got a brilliant squad here and I don't think much needs tweaking for us to go up next season."

Adams was first appointed in June 2009 and Port Vale finished 10th in their first season under the former Leicester, Brighton and Coventry boss.

Vale were second in League Two before Adams' departure in December, which signalled a dip in form and ultimately the end of the club's promotion challenge.

They eventually finished 11th, three points away from a play-off place.

Preparations for a fourth season in League Two have already begun, with Loft, along with defenders Gareth Owen and Adam Yates, signing new two-year contracts at Vale Park.

"It's nice to finally get it signed," said the 24-year-old, who was one of Adams' first signings during his first spell at Vale Park.

"When I've played, I think I've done really well. I'm settled and I'm happy up here and that's why I've signed again."
