QPR win was no fluke, says Port Vale boss Micky Adams

Port Vale manager Micky Adams says his side's 3-1 win against QPR in the Carling Cup first round was "no fluke".

Two goals from Justin Richards and one from Sean Rigg put Vale 3-0 up, before Antonio German pulled one back.

Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "It was no fluke we deserved the win, the players were fantastic.

"This squad of players with a bit of belief and confidence are as good as anybody at our level and perhaps we played better than our level tonight."

The League Two side, who won their season-opener against Bury, had notable wins against Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup last season.

"If you come to Championship sides like we did at Sheffield United and we lay on our backs and let them tickle our belly we're asking for trouble," added Adams.

"I picked the same 11, but I changed the system. I went with a system that worked against Championship sides last season."

Adams revealed after the game that he is looking to add to his playing squad, and an un-named midfielder is close to joining the club.

The Vale manager has been handed some money to move into the loan market after his squad was left depleted, with both Lewis Haldane and Ritchie Sutton ruled out until at least early September.

Adams added : "We need a couple of players to help us out, and having some money available will help me to increase our numbers."
